Lucien walked into a bungalow, and everyone who saw him walk in stopped what they were doing. All eyes immediately turned to him as he walked to the center of the space and stopped.

“Where’s Russo?” he asked in the calmest, clearest voice. The place went silent after his question.

He was in an enemy’s den, but he didn’t stutter. Russo was the only one in the city bold enough to think he could double-cross him and dishonor their agreement of peace.

Everyone in the space was Russo’s people. They were all scared of him, but they also feared their boss. It became a unified conclusion that not answering was the safest choice—telling Lucien where Russo was would anger their boss, but giving him the wrong answer could end just as badly.
