Chapter 27. Almost

Rita knew his relationship with Russo wasn’t a sweet one. They had never seen eye to eye since she knew both, but they had recently agreed to stop the in-city war, and she knew Lucien only agreed to it because of his newest redevelopment project.

She heard Lucien sigh before her. “I need some of your people joining mine and searching through the city. I have to find her.”

“A her...” She gasped, surprised. “It’s a woman?”

“Yes,” Lucien answered.

“Oh, she’s in trouble. If it’s one of your enemies in possession of her, they’re not going to be friendly.” Rita shook her head with pity.

“I know,” Lucien swallowed, trying not to think of it from that angle, or he’d be weakened by the possibility of her already being dead. But he knew whoever took her wanted his attention, and now they’d got it.
