Chapter 43. Not Safe

In the shower.

While Lucien rinsed the foam off Anna’s back, he noticed the scar she was insecure about. He had seen it many times before, but Anna assumed she had hidden it so well.

Tracing his finger gently over the short line on her upper back, he leaned in and whispered to her, “Your father did this to you?”

Anna bit her lips to hide a frown. “Yeah. When I was twelve, he drew a line on my back with a hot needle just to get my mom to do what he wanted.”

Lucien sighed angrily.

“At least, I was evidence to put him in jail. All the wounds he gave my mom healed, but mine didn’t. So when he was tried, I was evidence of his abuse.” Anna added, no longer worried that Lucien had seen her scar; she now felt comfortable.
