Chapter 26. A Step Closer
No words were exchanged between the two almost friends. This was probably the most inconvenient place to bond, but here they were.
Alexander simply held Isabella as she wept. No words of comfort left his lips, a gesture which Isabella couldn’t be more thankful for. He stroked her back, letting her cry on his chest.
After the minute hand had stuck two more numbers, Isabella’s quiet sobs died down, making her pull herself off him.
His scent seemed to cling to her, invading her olfactory senses. Isabella was half tempted to breathe in the scent now associated with comfort, but she refrained from it, focusing more on gathering the shreds of her dignity.
“I’m sorry,” her voice was still heavy with tears. “I shouldn’t have done that.”
She pulled out a handkerchief, attempting to wipe off the tear stains from his white shirt. Her efforts proved futile.
