Chapter 31. Secrets Resurfaced
The clock had stuck an hour, and Isabella’s parents were still nowhere in sight. Alexander was grasping unto the last strings of his patience, which was growing taut and would soon snap.
“Alexander honey,” the annoying high-pitched voice of Isabella’s mother rang across the quiet hospital hallway, making Alexander hide a cringe.
“Good afternoon, Mrs. Monroe,” he gave a tight-lipped smile.
Mr. Monroe was standing beside his wife, frowning as usual.
Alexander extended his hand for a handshake, and he gratefully took it, his grip firm.
Doctor Trent arrived right on time with the nurse in tow. Her hair, previously tied in a tight bun, had unruly strands that had managed to escape the knot. Dark circles decorated her eyes, and her fingers repeatedly drummed against the clipboard. In summary, she was on the threshold of falling flat on the carefully waxed floor.
