Chapter 109. Is She Dead?
After leaving the Gator’s hideout, Carlos wasn’t sure where to go. He needed to get back to work, but he wanted to go back home. He wanted to see Fiona, wanted to find out how she was doing.
He had itched to see her so badly the past few days and had no way of expressing that intention, not even to himself. The very thought of her made him feel so much rage, and he knew that if he took the time to pick apart that rage, he would find jealousy, shame, and so many things he did not want to face. But he wanted to go home today; he wanted to see her face and watch her eyes light up, to twirl strands of her hair around his fingers just to be sure that she was real and in front of him.
Even as he thought so, a part of him strongly resisted his feelings. It made conscious efforts to remind him of what he’d endured at the Torturer’s hands and warned him of just how badly this would end if she was playing him for a fool. And given her track record—and his of falling embarrassingly
