Chapter 9
After Kayden had paid for both of their meals, with Zayla scoffing at having someone else pay for hers, they both hesitated in standing up, their eyes both glued to the window. The night had deepened, and more stars were visible now, making the dark skies even more of a sight to behold.
“We should probably go,” Zayla said, breaking both of their reveries.
“Right, right.” Kayden shuffled hurriedly and stood up, seeing more people coming in for dinner. He walked toward Zayla’s side of the booth and held out his hands as he had done when helping her out of her car. He helped her up, waiting for her to hook her hands onto his arms.
“Would you like me to drive home?” Zayla asked while Kayden was opening her car door for her.
“No, it’s okay. Besides, it’s getting late. I don’t want you driving out this late. There’s still the Jackson incident that my friends haven’t settled,” Kayden said, fidgeting with his watch because he did not want to look up at Zayla, knowing
