Adeline’s POV
“I had already begged you to break the mate bond, Theodore,” I said softly. “And you said you would.”
I didn’t want him claiming me now. Not when my heart no longer belonged where it once did. Not when I had started to let go.
“I didn’t say I would.”
Ezra cleared his throat.
I was so mad at him because he lied to me.
“She saved my life, and I must say—she is an asset. A very good doctor.” Ezra said.
Theodore nodded slowly, “She is. So how long do you plan on staying here King Ezra?”
“Till he’s fit to leave,” I said quickly, before Ezra could speak. “Once some of his injuries heal up.”
I saw the look in Theodore’s eyes. Like he had something he wanted to say, but he wasn’t saying it.
He was uncomfortable. And I wondered why.
“Good,” he finally said, turning to Ezra with a small smile. “You are always welcome here. It would be an honor to host you before you leave.”
