Ezra’s POV
I didn’t like it when Layla came to my office and said she was off to Orion’s company. I tried to hide it, but it bothered me.
The thought of her crossing back into his world made my chest twist. I understood why she was going. It was part of her plan. But understanding was not enough.
Letting her walk into that building, his space, and his presence felt wrong. The man who had betrayed her, stolen from her, the man who had broken her trust. I admired her courage, but hated the thought of her being near him.
I reminded myself that I had no right to stop her. She wasn’t mine, she was free to do as she pleased. But still, I could feel the tightness in my chest.
I knew Layla was not going to be fooled by him. She was not the same person who had once believed him. But still, the fact that she had to pretend, had to play a role, bothered me. I could change nothing about it. That’s what was so hard.
