Chapter 22. Orphanage
"Morning," Roy greeted us as we crossed paths in the living room.
"Afternoon," I responded.
I saw him scratch his head after checking the time. "Afternoon," he repeated.
The sun was already high when we got back. I dozed off in the car, so I woke up in the morning. He had been the only one awake between the two of us, probably because he had been driving all night. Thankfully, nothing bad had happened on the way home. He had apologized for his behavior last night, so I let it go. Nothing had really transpired, and it would have just been awkward for both of us to dwell on it.
"Have you been up for long?" he asked.
I nodded in response and took a sip from the glass of water I had with me.
"Do you have any plans today?" I asked. I was concerned that I had let him sleep in, and he might have had something important to do.
"No," he replied shortly before sitting down on the couch. "But I have something tomorrow," he added.
