Later in the evening, Benedict’s stubbornness won against Hadley’s, and he ended up staying the night over.
He stood by the tall window in his room and quietly drank brandy, enjoying the melancholic view of the city at night. He lit a cigarette and savored the nicotine as he puffed a smoke.
His eyes fixed in the direction of the city, flaring with multi-colored lights, and he sighed repeatedly.
He was gravely aching inside. It felt heavy, prickly, and suffocating at the same time. Benedict didn’t know which part hurt the most, but he felt like drowning in murky waters, yet constrained as if barbwires had balled around him.
He had been carrying this feeling around for days and wasn’t sure what caused it. Having such feelings was a first for Benedict.
He felt lost on what to do, not knowing what it was until he came here to see Hadley. Only now did he understand the pain that seemed to reside in his chest.
