I woke up around 7 p.m. and saw Auntie Penny, Mama’s best friend, who’s also a nurse like her. She’s probably doing Mama a favor—to be my companion, as all three of them were not available.

“Hello, Auntie Penny,” I greeted her as she saw me rubbing my eyes since I just woke up. She then smiled at me and greeted me back, “Hello, Leslie!”

She placed her bag on an empty couch and then checked if my dextrose was almost finished. “You don’t need to thank me, Les. And correction—I volunteered. I do this because I see you as my own child already,” she said.
