Chapter 5
It was, I think, just minutes after they injected something into my skin, and I felt dizzy and drowsy afterward. I just knew that I kept on chanting and praying that this heart transplant would be successful until everything went black.
I did not know how much time had passed when I finally got to open my eyes. My eyes were welcomed by the white light, probably from the light bulb in my hospital room, but I was too groggy to recognize the place. Nevertheless, I was delighted because opening my eyes meant that I had survived the heart transplant. It meant that the operation went well.
When I opened my eyes again, I saw Mama. I saw her lips moving, indicating that she was speaking, but I couldn’t hear what she was saying, nor could I lip-read it, so I just smiled at her.
The third time I opened my eyes, I saw Dr. Angel and Lance. They both smiled at me, and I smiled back at them. I could hear them murmuring, but I couldn’t understand the words they were saying.
