Chapter 14
One look at Cassandra and anybody could tell that her mind was all over the place, even as she was absentmindedly eating her pie. Damien could see it; it was almost as if it was boldly written on her face with a permanent marker. His parents advised him to just take her to bed so that she wouldn’t be so strained and could fall asleep with her thoughts instead of being awake and tortured by them.
“Do you want to talk about it?” he asked her when both of their heads were resting against a pillow, and they were looking at each other.
She shook her head from side to side, signifying that was the last thing she wanted to do right now. He respected that, stroking her hair tenderly, then asked, “So, how was work? Did Candice bother you?”
