Chapter 17
“Oh no, what’s happening here?” Tricia said as she stepped into the kitchen and saw a cloud of smoke wafting right through the door. She called out for Cassandra, and she soon appeared through the clouds of smoke. She pulled her out of the kitchen and then sent some of the servants to take care of it. By the time she pulled her out, Cassandra looked as if she had already made it through the remains of a burnt building.
“It’s just the pie I was making…” she said wearily as she sank into one of the cushions in the living room. “…It is burnt up; I wasn’t paying attention.” She was speaking almost robotically, and Tricia sat next to her, trying to pull her up.
“I think you should change out of those clothes.”
“I don’t have much clothes left here.”
“Then I can order you some new clothes,” Tricia quickly suggested, but she noticed that Cassandra was not really looking at her or paying much attention. Her crystal blue eyes drifted down to the floor and then slowly t
