Elise’s POV
My mind raced, trying to think of something, anything that could save us.
“There!” Rose pointed to a cluster of rocks up ahead. “We can hide there!” she said to me in a panic.
We moved off the path and headed toward the rocks.
They were piled high, forming a natural barrier.
It was barely wide enough for us to squeeze through, but we managed.
We pressed ourselves against the cold stone, trying to catch our breath, trying to stay as quiet as possible.
The beast slowed down as it approached the rocks, its growls turning into low, threatening rumbles.
It sniffed the air, searching for our scent. My heart pounded so loudly I was afraid it would hear it. I held my breath, hoping it wouldn’t find us.
