Chapter 57. Nowhere to Be Found

I went downstairs after Kaelan sent Maria to inform me that the breakfast was served.
Apart from training quite often, I’ve fallen into the habit of making hand-knitted sweaters for kids. I made sure I gave one handmade sweater to one child in each family in the pack.
It was my own little way of making an impact.
As I entered the dining room, the lavish breakfast spread on the table. The scent of freshly baked bread and roasted meat filled the air, and the effect of it made my stomach growl.
Kaelan gestured for me to sit opposite him, which I obliged.
Kaelan’s eyes watched me as he sliced through his steak. He had been unusually gentle this morning, his touches lingered, and his voice softer than usual.
“You’re not eating,” he noted, his brow arching slightly.
I sighed, setting my fork down. “I have too much on my mind.”
