Chapter 7
I knew who was providing them because I remembered the other day when he caressed my head. I didn’t know what he was doing here, but the way he stroked me, the way he held me close to him, the way he dug his head into my fur, it all felt familiar.
“My sweet Sara, I will never let anything happen to you again.” He whispered caressingly kissing my head. I was falling so asleep that his words were barely perceptible to me, but what I did detect was the fondness of them.
I woke up from a bad dream that had long been a reality, when I opened my eyes the fire had turned into embers about to be extinguished. I tried to move, but I was tightly held by my arms. Max was breathing calmly on my neck as if the fact that we had slept together was nothing. I let my head lay on the carpet again, giving up my struggle to get up.
