Chapter 107. I Trust You
Elaine came out of her car and walked straight to Melvin’s. She’d noticed it as soon as Hank drove into the building. Since the kidnapping incident, she had not been allowed on public transport systems anymore. Tom and Hank drove her anywhere she needed to go.
Melvin rolled down his car window as she approached, a broad smile on his face. A smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.
“Are you okay?” she asked, stopping by the door.
“Sure, why do you ask?” He leaned out of the window.
“You look a bit sick.”
He shrugged. “Must be the alcohol from last night.”
“Melvin,” she began but then pressed her lips in a thin line.
It wasn’t her place to talk. She wasn’t even interested in spending any more time with him. Telling him to improve himself would only cause them to bind further.
“What? Come on.”
“Nothing.”
“No.” He opened the car door. “Tell me what you wanted to say.”
