Chapter 153. Men at Work
“Are you going to tell me why you have me moving boxes all day?” Andrew asked.
It had been three days since he had come to live with Pops. Harris was yet to return with the flowers and Elaine couldn’t stand his presence for more than a minute. She always found something that needed to be done. His room was much warmer now but the food wasn’t any better. She didn’t say anything about wanting him to leave but her attitude was still cold and aloof. Not that it was working.
“It’s really important.”
“I already checked. There’s nothing in the boxes but piles of bricks,” Andrew said.
Pops said nothing. The old man continued to walk down the lane that followed the path of the valley with a dusty old sack in his hand. Andrew grunted as he tried to keep up with the man while carrying a heavy ladder.
“You’re not going to say anything?”
“You weren’t supposed to look into the boxes, Mr. Davids.”
