Chapter 22. Lunch with Jean
Elaine returned from the toilet to find Jean in her seat. She narrowed her eyes to fiery slits. First, Jean took her cubicle, then Jean was promoted to one of the seats around Presley’s table. Her preferred seat. Now the woman had the guts to sit cross-legged in her actual seat.
Elaine eyed the seat. Jean got the promotion while she’d been the one to do the work. She argued with Andrew and had to endure a grueling investigative evening with Melvin.
The folds on her forehead thickened as his name crossed her mind. She hadn’t heard from him after the kiss. Her feelings had ranged from angry to confused to embarrassed. He’d kissed her without her consent. How could he have assumed that she would be interested in him? Just like that.
