Chapter 100. Urgent Summons
“Carter?” She hesitates. She could be wrong.
There is a gruel essence to his voice that is difficult to place with the last image of Carter she has ingrained in her memory. The soft-spoken boy toy in pinstripe suits, scurrying behind Rose like a shadow.
“Lara. Took you long enough. We need to talk,” he is sharp and straight to the point. There is a deep sense of urgency in his utterance as well. Lara has become used to urgency. Her life is now a fast-paced game of first to shoot, first to backstab, and last to die.
So far she has survived, perhaps by sheer luck. She wonders how much chance she has left in the bank. How sure is she that she can trust this new Carter? How is she sure this new player is playing on her team?
“Yeah, right. I’ve not seen you in 5 years and I am supposed to skip in my car and meet up for some tea and cake?” She blurts out sarcastically, anger simmering in the pits of her belly. “What do you think I am, a dumb ass six years old?”
