Chapter 101. Duty and Devotion

Work drones on for Chris. He goes through every patient call trying to distract himself from Lara. The clock seems stingy with time as hours trickle by. Staring at the cup of coffee in his hands, his mouth pursed in deep thought.

“Is everything okay, Doctor?” Sharon, the new intern asks. He pulls his gaze from the wormhole that has become his thoughts and plasters a wide fake grin on his face.

“Sure.”

“There’s a call for you, sir,” She stretches out his phone toward him. Taking it from her, he glances at the phone’s screen, his brows folding in confusion. “I don’t understand. Why are you giving it to me?”

“You left it in one of the rooms, sir.”

“Oh—“ He palms his head, nodding in gratitude. “Thank you,” he mutters.
