Chapter 49. Glory Dome
The feeling of distress clamps down on Lara’s insides as she sinks into the brown leather sofa in her office, a ghostly quietude prevailing in the space, an amplifier of the noise inside her head. She had informed Rose of her intention to leave but still a hundred perecent sure if it is the right step to take given the circumstances.
The silver-haired nurse sitting in an armed chair across from her inevitably asks, “Who is the father?” A question that stiffens Lara even more as she gazes blankly at the woman in white, pondering how to begin answering that question.
“I did not come here to be questioned,” she snaps. In truth, she didn’t. This whole thing was Claire’s idea. She had suggested they invited this nurse for a second opinion.
“Lara,” Claire calls out her friend. To her, the outburst is not necessary, but at the back of her mind, she understands why.
