Chapter 56. Salt
Cathy has securely navigated the car to a safe corner and pulled out Lara’s bag from the rear when Lara stands in front of a tall building complex with her hands folded and her jaws dropped. Her sun kissed skin is radiant although her face is pale, and her black flail dress dances with a cold wind that whizzes by.
The old cement building remains standing as if teetering at the precipice of collapse, yet numerous clothes can be seen spread on the balcony and windows, showing that people still live there. Some of the glass windows has been broken and the several sprayed sentences on the wall tell of the nature of the neighborhood.
The street is quite narrow with cars parked on either side making navigation a bit challenging. As Lara keeps observing the vicinity, Cathy rolls her box past her, walking with a suspicious glee.
