Chapter 57. Rendezvous
They have been in the parking lot for thirty minutes now, the silence between them screaming. Cathy remains motionless with her hands on the steering, staring blankly at the windscreen with mouth agape. The car engine is still raving, the radio stuttering some incoherent words.
Sitting on the front seat this time, Lara is unmoved. She stares at an image of herself through the side mirror and lets out a vague smile knowing that whatever happened in Coco’s place favored her. At least for now she has a place to lay her head, a big achievement.
The fact that Cathy remains in a shocked state does nothing to alter her pleasant mood. In fact, for the first time in a long time the delightful feeling of accomplishment peruse her insides. She smiles even more, but the sound of Cathy clearing her throat in preparation to speak makes her ride her face of any warm expression.
