Chapter 10
Mr. Damascus entered the room to meet his wife standing by the window. She must have been awoken by the howling sounds, which the girls denied hearing. She'd taken the towel he placed on her forehead away. It was neatly folded now on the table beside their bed. He went to her and touched her shoulder, making her shiver, and then stood behind her reaching for the window.
"Honey, you're going to catch a cold standing like this."
Mrs. Damascus hugged herself but relaxed when she realized it was only her husband. She turned away from him because she didn't want him to see her crying, but he saw the tears on her cheek before she could throw her face away from him.
"I'm fine, Patrick." She started walking back to the bed with her face still in hiding. She raised her right hand now to wipe the tears. "Have the girls gone to bed?" She sat down now.
