Chapter 11
Johnny opened his eyes as light sauntered into his room. He stretched his left hand to the alarm clock, blaring in his head. The clock seemed too far at first, then he pulled his entire weight to a side and grabbed it. Groaning, he sat up and hit it to a stop. It was another morning. He turned to find his mother still sleeping. Her heartbeat rose and fell. He slid a pair of padded slippers and walked to the hanger where his towel lay. Draping it around his neck, he went into the bathroom and jammed the door to a close. This woke his mother.
Kaitlin stirred and opened her eyes. She heaved again, realizing she was still on the bed. The same spot where she'd fallen asleep the night before. She'd remembered she had to prepare the cheese and honey for breakfast, which was her son’s favorite. She yawned, craned her neck, and walked to the kitchen.
