Lucian’s POV

The decision had been made and for a day we had made our plans, it was now time to carry them out. My fists were folded as we waited just outside the palace. Nerena was beside me, her presence calm like it always was and I managed to stay still.

We were waiting for her, Lyra. Once she was here then that was all we needed. We would attack. We had the rogues behind us and it surprised me their number. Even though I had lived among them, I was just learning that they were far more in number than I thought.

It was then that the ruffle of leaves as approaching footsteps came towards us that I saw her. Her face was squeezed into a frown, her eyes scanned until they met mine and she stopped just in front of us.
