“Tell me it wasn’t your fault, Ethan.”
“It wasn’t my fault.” He rolls his eyes.
“Now say it like you mean it.” I demand.
“It wasn’t my fault.” He says with more firmness.
“Again.”
“It wasn’t my fault.”
“What wasn’t your fault?”
“That my brother died.” He says.
“Who’s fault was it?” I get a warm fuzzy feeling in the pit of my stomach as he answers me with more confidence. “Who killed Sam?”
“My father!” He says in a powerful, deep voice that sends my nerve endings into a tizzy.
“Exactly. The one responsible for killing your brother was your father, not you. Your safety was of utmost importance to Sam, and he made sure to take all necessary measures. He was saving you.” I tell him. My eyes sweep across his face, settling for a moment on the fullness of his lips. “Saving you for me.”
