August hasn’t felt confident enough to leave the house since learning of Nora’s death from her sister; he knew the gun shorts were deep because he was the first person to hold her, but money has never failed him.
He blames himself for her death and believes he should have done more to aid her; nevertheless, what he despises the most is the fact that they didn’t find it in their hearts to invite him to her funeral.
He hasn’t told his parents everything, and he has no plans to do so anytime soon. He’s been taking alcohol from the grocery store attendant, which helps him sleep. Nora’s death has had such an impact on him that he is unable to achieve anything with his life.
