“Are you okay?” Charles asked, noticing my sudden change in facial expression and mood. His brows furrowed, that gentle concern in his eyes making my stomach twist.

“Yeah,” I answered, forcing a smile that didn’t reach my eyes. I could feel my pulse quickening, a familiar unease clawing up my throat.

Unknown number: You’re really testing me and my patience, Ria… you’ll be punished for smiling at him like that.

My eyes widened with shock. For a second, the world froze around me. The words burned into my mind like a brand. I turned to the door, scanning the room with my eyes, my heartbeat pounding in my ears.

“Hey, Ria, relax. What is it?” Charles asked, puzzled. He reached out, his hand hovering before settling hesitantly on my shoulder.

“Uh… uhm… I don’t think I can do this,” I said, my voice cracking with frustration. My hands trembled as I tried to steady myself against the chair.
