As I walked out of the doctor’s office with a cast on my ankle, holding onto the crutches with Ashley by my side, it felt unreal that I’d sprained it so badly.
“Can I at least visit Declan?” I asked Ashley, who shot me a cold glare.
“Why would you put yourself through such pain?” she asked, knowing I would hate to see Hailey wailing over her husband.
“I’m willing to take the risk,” I answered, placing my crutch forward and taking small steps.
Thankfully, Hailey had given me the room number. I couldn’t tell whether it was out of pretense or if she still considered me her sister.
“I’ve got a really bad feeling about this,” Ash muttered as we approached the door.
“It won’t be that bad,” I said, forcing a smile.
“It’s not that… I don’t care if he loses a limb. I’m talking about Hailey—and your condition,” she added, gesturing with her eyes at my ankle.
“It’ll be alright. I’ve got you here with me,” I said, giving her my brig
