Mia POV

My eyes fluttered open. My vision cleared up seconds later and for a while, my mind was empty and foggy, a loud ringing in my ears and the strained sound of my breathing.

“Are you awake?” I turned to see Mira seated beside my bed, hovering.

“What happened?” I asked. I glanced at my carefully bandaged hand where I had stabbed.

I jolted up, wincing as a sharp pain shot through my head.

“What about the curse? Is it broken?” I asked eagerly.

Her shoulders slumped and she sighed. “We don’t know that yet.”

“Oh no! Did I mess things up?”

“No. You did well. It might take a few days before we can be certain.”

My heart lurched painfully.

“Take me back”

“You are still weak. Look at yourself, you can barely stand.”

“Please just take me back! I want to see Lukas.”
