I halted my car in front of her, and leveled down the window. The corner of my lips twitched up seeing the surprise expression on her face. “You getting in?” I said.

She didn’t get to open the car door when someone called her name. My insides burned seeing Roman right in front of her. Unknowingly, I gripped the steering wheel tightly. I didn’t get to hear much of what they were discussing.

I caught a glimpse of the smile on Roman’s face. Whereas Rose’s expression was normal. “You didn’t introduce me to him.”

Why is he so keen on knowing me? Did Nathaniel send him to do a background check on me too? Through Rose? I unlocked my car door and approached them.

“I didn’t introduce myself earlier. I’m Hunter, Rose’s history teacher.”

“I’m Roman, Rose’s personal driver and friend.” I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. Friend my foot. He’s acting like he knows Rose better than me.

“Do you?” my inner voice said.
