Chapter 9. This Doesn't End Here

LENA

My heart was screaming something different from what I told Dean, but what else could I do? Admitting to Dean that I still loved him would shatter me into a thousand pieces. Why? Because I knew Dean wasn't being sincere.

He was dating my former best friend. Dean himself had told me to my face that he never loved me. This was what he wanted for us. We got divorced. I thought about believing Dean's love story because it was probably fake. When I knew he betrayed me with Carla, I knew I could never trust his words again. He broke our promise. He betrayed me.

I noticed that my response affected Dean. His eyebrows furrowed. He got angry. But I didn't care.

"You can get angry, but don't dare try to fool me with your stupid declarations of love. I know you're a liar. I'll never trust you again because you've betrayed me," I made it clear. "Jake and I are together. He's a better man than you."
