Chapter 18. Scared

Lucien walked over to her and picked up the bracelet from where she left it, not answering her question but saying something totally different.

"You're too jumpy," he mocked her with a teasing smirk. Anna narrowed her gaze playfully but said nothing. "Which wrist?" He asked her, seeing there was just one bracelet.

Anna held out her left wrist, and Lucien slid the bracelet around it. She felt the cold metal against her warm skin, before he locked the clasp in place like he had done it a hundred times.

"Thanks," she murmured, giving her wrist a little shake to admire the shine. She glanced at him from the corner of her eye. "How did your meeting go?"

Instead of replying, Lucien picked up another piece of jewelry; a matching anklet. He set it gently on the counter before crouching to the floor. He tugged up his trouser leg and dropped down to one knee right in front of her.
