Chapter 20. Drunk

Lucien’s eyes tracked Anna as she moved across the restaurant, over to one of the servers and talked to them for a while. He couldn’t hear her, but he guessed she was asking for the restroom.

Minutes later, Gennie rose from the table, a too-bright smile pasted on her lips. “Excuse me,” she said lightly, her voice dripping with false sweetness.

She followed the same path Anna had taken, her heels clicking with every step.

Inside the restroom, Anna stood at the sink, her hands trembling slightly under the rushing tap. She didn’t hear Gennie enter—at least not until the sound of heels paused beside her.

Anna lifted her head, startled. She caught Gennie’s reflection in the mirror. The sexy woman was digging through her designer purse, pulling out a tube of lipstick.
