Chapter 22. You Hurt Her

Lucien had just received bad news from his cartel, and like that wasn’t enough to spoil his mood, an unfortunate man had just hurt Anna in the process of trying to steal from her.

He looks away for a minute and this happens.

Quickly and calculatedly, Lucien’s gaze sharpened immediately, catching sight of the thief bolting down the sidewalk with Anna’s purse.

He didn’t hesitate. Moving fast, Lucien reached down and grabbed a smooth rock from the ground, and with a calculated throw, it hit the back of the thief’s knee with perfect aim.

The man fell over with a loud grunt, his leg buckling beneath him. Lucien didn’t go to him immediately. His focus was Anna. He strode to her, scooping her up into his arms with a careful strength.

“Bunny,” his voice was rough with worry, “are you hurt?”
