Chapter 20. I Belong Here

Selena drew a deep breath and began, “Last night, something strange occurred, and...” She paused briefly and nibbled her bottom lip before continuing, “I’m uncertain how I survived or woke up naked near that fountain this morning. My last memory was running into the woods after some accident.” She gasped, “Oh my goodness, we must leave immediately. I came here to find help for those people – I mean, the individuals involved in last night’s accident – before it’s too late.”

Titus remained motionless.

“Why aren’t you moving?” Selena inquired. “What’s the matter?”

“We need to find you some clothes and keep you warm,” he advised.

Selena scoffed, “While those people might die, you’re only worried about keeping me warm?”

Titus inhaled deeply, “Come inside, and we can talk more comfortably.”

“I can’t enter a house I barely know until I’ve attempted to save those people,” she replied, folding her arms.

Titus frowned, “You’re remarkably stubborn.”
