Chapter 9. The Future Isn’t So Bright
Aset shot up from her bedchamber as a cold sweat consumed her body. This was the third time she’d seen it in the past few nights. The nightmare has different scenarios, but the outcome is always the same. She is facing a demon with her betrothed, Djet, and they die at the hands of their people. This last one, however, was far more bizarre than any other within the previous seven moons.
Known as the medicine woman, she possessed the power to heal and predict the future, making her highly respected. She took pride in that. It was the reason they invited her to the court. And once she met Djet’s eyes all those weeks ago at the coronation, it was love at first sight.
He asked her to dance with him, and after that dance and the vision that ensued after she clasped his hand, the now-appointed king desired her as his sole consort. Not only did he seek to predict good fortune as the ruler of Egypt, but also for his kingdom’s people.
