Every man present knew instantly that this detective had just crossed a dangerous line. The sheer tension on their faces made it obvious she had misspoken, though she clearly had no idea why.

Even the Police Captain didn’t understand why everyone looked so utterly horror-struck. It wasn’t the shock of a revelation; it was shock at the absolute audacity of her claim.

Captain Luiz glanced at the Alpha to see if he shared his men’s expression. But Alpha Knight’s eyes were tightly shut. He stood with his arms crossed, his veins popping as if he were carrying an immense physical weight. His jaw was clenched rigid, yet he maintained an eerie, deceptive calm, never opening his eyes to look at them.

“I’m sorry, but did I say something wrong?” Detective Kelly Reynolds asked. This was definitely not the reaction she had anticipated when breaking her theory.
