Andrew shot Harris a hard look.
“What?” Harris put his hands in the air. “I’m simply stating facts.”
“Don’t you think it’s too soon for either of us…”
Harris followed his eyes. “Oh, I see now.”
Andrew jerked. “What do you see?”
“You know one difference between you and I? The big reason why Kath and I don’t fail to give you a hard time? You’re an ass-kisser.”
“What?”
“You suck up to the old man. You’re too afraid to disappoint him and you spend your every waking moment towing his perfect lines so that you make it very hard for the rest of us. Sometimes, I think you’re one of the trophies on that pedestal of his; afraid you’ll lose your value if you have one tiny dust, one speck out of place. But for us, we’ve disappointed him so much that he doesn’t bother. He’s just pleased with our bare minimum. And that’s one of the many reasons we don’t visit home too often.
