Chapter 98. The Equalizer
Lara sits on the dining table staring blankly at her plate of chicken sauce and rice which lay on the surface. Three days have passed and Chris would not talk to her. He has chosen to sleep in another room and prefers to order his food from the restaurants around him instead of joining her at the table.
No doubt, she did him dirty. But the silent treatment is somewhat tortuous for her.
Clad in a white lacy, flail, short gown, she has managed to brush, oil, and coil her hair, as well as apply slight makeup and perfume — just the way he likes it.
She passes her gaze to the clock and kisses her teeth. “Six forty-five,” she mutters impatiently. Just then she hears the sound of footsteps echoing on the stairway. She rises swiftly and heads for the staircase.
There, she finds her lover fully clad in a brown checked suit, with matching shoes and no tie. When he sees her, he halts. Their eyes collide and she smiles slyly.
