I looked in the mirror with my husband by my side; he held my hand in his so as not to leave me alone. I needed that moment of self-love more than anything. I had felt too vulnerable, and he was aware of it.
“For me, you are and will always be the most beautiful woman in the world,” he said softly, caressing my body. He looked at me with tenderness, something that contrasted with his always deadly look. “If anyone makes you feel bad again, I’ll kill him without hesitation.”
I didn’t expect that, although I should be used to it by now. Jacob seemed more like a Mafia boss than a king; that’s what everyone who knew him said. His manners were sharp, and he always sounded dangerous with his piercing and captivating gaze.
Nausea came over me all at once, and I was about to vomit in the room. I stayed on the floor, and he knelt down beside me to support me. I was weak as a piece of paper as if all my energy had been drained in one go.
